ROTARY DRILL BITS
HD Drilling Resolution partners directly with rotary bit manufacturers to bring quality products with the latest technology to your operation. Our many years of experience with rotary bits enables us to make sure you have the right bit for the right job. We have three different bearing packages available depending on your application and drilling conditions. Bits are available in any popular size from 4 1/2" up to 16" in diameter, and can be produced in API or BECO threads. Each bearing style can be utilized with different cutting structures.
The air bearing package is primarily used in mining applications. It is the most inexpensive bearing package of the three types. Air is supplied through three passages to each bearing. This serves to keep the bearing cool, and to keep them clean from any debris. All air bearing bits are fitted with a back flow valve to prevent material from entering the bearings or air chamber of the bits in a negative pressure environment.
Air / Open Bearing
The sealed bearing package is used in a variety of applications from mining, water well, raisebore, HDD, and oil & gas. This package differs from the air bearing with each of the cones having seals and being vacuum packed with grease. This is a good option when you are drilling in wet applications, or for mines that are experiencing bearing failures on an air bearing bit. Sealed bearings can come in two different options, a sealed roller bearing, and a friction journal bearing. The primary downfall to a sealed bearing is that once the seal fails on a cone, the grease will leak out, causing a bearing failure due to lack of lubrication and excess heat.
The hybrid bearing package is designed to be used primarily in mining applications, however it can be used in other drilling applications as well. This design starts out as a sealed roller bearing using a patented spring loaded compensator. Once the seal on the cone fails, the grease leaks out and the compensator springs open, revealing an air passage to the now open bearing. This passage supplies sufficient air to the bearing to keep it cool and clean, allowing the bit to achieve a longer life.
Excess Rotary Bit Availability
Many times, bit manufacturers will have excess rotary bits in certain diameters and styles. We are able to offer those bits sometimes at a significant discount. Please click on the link to see our list of available bits. Contact us if you are interested in pricing on any of them!
